Map reading skills

We are still building on those geography skills! We’ve been increasing our knowledge of the UK and British Isles with an online quiz to name each country and capital city.

How many attempts will it take you to get all the correct answers?

As a real brain stretcher, we’ve tried another quiz to name all the countries in Europe…. our class map was helpful with this one. Even Miss McIlwaine has found it addictive trying to beat her past scores!

Chocolate and sweets galore!

For the next two weeks, we are looking at Roald Dahl’s, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. We’ve had great fun inventing plans for new sweets and chocolate for Willy Wonka to make. Knowsley Safari Park

Reception had the most AMAZING time at Knowsley Safari Park.

We saw lots of different animals and were lucky enough to see the tigers and the wolves (which we were told are very good at hiding and do not usually come out!)

We also saw elephants, rhinos and giraffes and were told how to spot whether an animal is a deer or an antelope. Can you remember what that was?

Watch the video below to see what a fantastic day we had, even if it was a bit soggy!

We have now started our new unit of Animals and really looking forward to our trip to Knowsley Safari Park on Wednesday.

This week we will be learning about different animals and writing the facts that we learn.

Our reading area will have lots of non-fiction books that we can read to learn new and exciting facts about animals.

Can you draw your favourite animal and write an interesting fact about it?

Where are we?

2A have been trying very hard to develop their map reading. The challenge area in class means they can keep building on these skills and expanding their knowledge of the world.

Can you name and find all seven continents?

What about the countries and capital cities of the British Isles?

Hooray…let’s do some art!

Year 2 are loving their current IPC unit, ‘Hooray… Let’s Go On Holiday!’ We’ve already learnt about the different types of holiday we can take across the world, how we can look after our seasides and how different holidays were in the past. Today the children enjoyed completing their art project, creating a moodboard/collage for their chosen holiday.
